Epson Ink Cartridges
Being a photographer today who prints their work the most expensive aspect of it is the ink cartridges. These little suckers which keep getting smaller are ridiculously priced considering what's in them. I know my Epson P800 is nearing the end of its service life and the printer has been discontinued for the newer P900 which now uses a completely different ink cartridge. There's now 10 cartridges instead of the 9 in the P800 and while the P900 cartridges cost less they've reduced the size from 80ml down to 50ml. On top of all this is the printers maintenance tank. A plastic tub filled with absorbent material that fills with ink after every cleaning cycle, which there is a lot of. The tank could easily be refilled with the absorbent material but Epson wants you to buy a new one and has even installed a chip that tells you printer not to print until the tank is changed. Judging by the weight of a full tank there must be several hundred dollars worth of ink in there. I have no idea why Epson won't allow these ink cartridges to be refilled.
