Where Is Today's Art Movement ?

I was listening to a conversation between an art historian, an art critic, and an art curator. I know it's sounds like the beginning of a bad bar joke. They were discussing the lack of an art movement in the 21st century with the term "zombie" being used several times that was made popular by critic Jerry Saltz when describing 21st century abstract art. The term is used to describe boring and redundant paintings looking like they all came from one artist. The term has been used recently to also describe today's portraiture and even simplistic color photography. In actuality the last semi-real movement was Neo-Expressionism that began as a response to Minimalism in the early 70s but it quickly vanished in the 80s after the death of Basquiat and the collapse of Schnabel. The critics were harsh and deemed the movement more about value than art. Almost 30 years later it's hard to disagree with that assessment. Since the art market has swallowed the art world the term Neo-Expressionism is rarely used because the negativity associated with it and the same can be said for Minimalism. Now art created from around 1970 to today is labeled contemporary. As for photography the time frame isn't much different. The last real movement in photography happened in the couple of years before and after 1970 in Japan known as the Provoke movement. And NO......NFT isn't a movement, it's 100% about money.
