Photography Simplified

I've spoken about the Fuji Instax system before and I'm still considering switching to it as I get older. Yes I prefer the square photo format of Polaroid but the "new" Polaroid is ridiculously expensive for their crappy inconsistent new film. Yes I prefer Polaroid's cameras over Fuji's too and in a perfect world Polaroid would let Fuji make film for their cameras again. with the Fuji film costing about a dollar an exposure I figure annual cost around $2000 and thats if you burn through a camera every year.

What interest me most about the instant film genre is the simplicity. Affordable cameras, reasonably priced film from Fuji, no printer, ink or paper, no editing software needed, doesn't warrant a lot of storage space and most importantly you end up with a one of a kind photo. Yes later on you could scan the photos and make larger prints but I doubt that's something I would do because it would defeat the purpose of simplicity.

If I had to make the choice right now I would have a hard time deciding on color or black and white film. As for the format I would choose the wide because the Fuji square film is too small. And in more good news there is a rumor that Fuji will be releasing a newer wide film camera towards the end of the year.

  1. This is so true. When I was having my “honeymoon” with the Polaroid I couldn’t think of anything better, but very quickly the inconsistency and ridiculous price ended it for me . You were right, If Fuji made the film for Polaroid than we’d be on to a winner. However, as you said, the relatively cheapness of the instax cameras makes for a more care free shooting style.
