What is Suburban Photography ?

As someone who was born 53 years ago I have a pretty good idea what a suburb is but much like the city my vision has become a little disoriented in the this second decade of the 21st century. When I think of the suburbs I picture tract houses based on the "Levittown" concept of the 1950s-1970s. Neighborhoods the comprise of ranchers, split levels and small two story houses and not the McMansions that plague todays landscape. I see kids playing in the yards, streets and parks. I see small convenience stores, yard sales and people cutting their lawns. Then after visiting a couple of towns you realize that's not reality today. So then you have to readjust your photography or give up on the idea.

In between the suburbs and the city there are small towns or at least sections of them that don't fit in either genre. They're towns that have fallen on hard times or seen a large demographic change. Photographing places like this are a little easier for an urban photographer but it's not what I'm currently looking for but when in doubt I will take the photo.
