Bob's Diner and America

In the 1985 Kojak Tv movie "The Belarus File" Kojak is sitting at a diner counter and says " Half a dollar for a cup of coffee - the country is going to hell." I wonder what Kojak would say in 2023 when a cup (sometimes bottomless) now costs three dollars. After a few years of holding out Bob's Diner was forced to raises their prices with forced being the word to focus on with what the current prices are for eggs, coffee, cooking oil and meat. His prices are now caught up to what most diners charge but he's very worried what this price change is going to due to his regulars and his waitresses tips. Current food prices are only part of the problem when you live in a city that's always looking for a way get more taxes and fees out of the small business man and woman. Even the price to reprint the menus was ridiculous.

Here are two signs that make those under the age of 40 cringe.

A smile washes over my face when a person agrees to let me take their photo before I even finish my project explanation and then say they'll be back next week to look at their photo. A side note to Millennials and Gen Z......people at the counter won't bite.

Week after week I watch staff, some 15 to 20 years my senior bust their butts and greatly outwork the young who don't last more than a month or two.

Someone asked me who I though the most important staff member was in a diner and after giving that question a lot of thought I've come to the conclusion that it might be the person that constantly keeps your coffee cup full. I've been standing up with my coat on ready to leave and Diane will refill my cup.
