The Art of NOT Seeing
As a photographer I love to see, to watch, to look, to observe. But every four years something occurs where I wish I had the ability to turn off the art of seeing. That something is the election season for the President of the United States. The"season" seems to begin earlier every cycle, much like stores now getting ready for Christmas in September, before Halloween, before Thanksgiving.
The internet and social media have made politics in this country horrendously worse by transforming politics into a team sport, and adults into acting like children. It must seem knee slapping funny to those in another country looking in. But sadly the blame goes beyond the internet, it's the non-stop political commercials on tv, it's the news and their half-assed reporting, it's the infiltration of all outdoors with political signs littering the landscape, the propaganda stickers and leaflets on street poles, people wearing hats and shirts with their choice boldly printed on them. There is no escape from this unnecessary madness.
