What Holidays ?
I haven't celebrated the holidays in a proper fashion for over 30 years. Actually much longer, if I think about it. For a good portion of my life I was behind a bar for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve nights. There was extremely good money to made off of those whom spent too much time with family and needed six or seven drinks as a form of medication.
I'm not a fan of the fake niceties, the false cheers, or the oh so bad presents with little or no thought. Then when it's over the majority of this planets inhabitance come down with what can only be described as severe withdraw symptoms. Symptoms that takes them weeks to get over, where they become semi-useful again in the workplace or even society. And don't get me started on those Seinfeld "Feastivus" fruit-loops.
Since I'm no longer behind the bar I want nothing more than for very quiet holidays. Especially since I quit drinking eleven years ago and my tolerance for today's humans is almost zilch.
I want nothing to do with family gatherings, office parties, secret santas, Mariah Carey Christmas songs, hipster dufus Mad Elf beer, gathering of friends that tell the same old "back in the day" stories. Oh.....and every TV channels news broadcasts of the "Best of whatever the hell the year it is lists". Nothing makes me want to go to their broadcast stations faster and go postal on their ass than that.
My Christmas Eve and Christmas night will be spent in my quiet home in front of the fireplace and Tv, maybe with a simple tv dinner. With a cat or two on my lap and Natasha saying "are you watching that again?" Well, that is after I ride the subway for a few hours on Christmas Eve day to take photos and have breakfast at the Broad Street Diner.
My Tv time will include a mix of eclectic shows such as season three, episode eight of Twin Peaks (Artistry of David Lynch). Season three, episode ten of the Twilight Zone "The Midnight Sun". And season two, episode twenty one of the tv show Millennium "Somehow, Satan Got Behind Me".
That's my holiday. Simple, relaxing, secluded.
