Rolling Daycare
My observations tell me that Philadelphia's subway, has become an unsupervised daycare. That the homeless, the addicted, the mentally ill, and the criminals now make up for more than 50% of the riders. Even a higher percentage once the rush hour is over - I mean after the rush half an hour is over.
It's only a matter of time before the system implodes unless the city and SEPTA become truthful with us. Ridership is down, way down, prices are up. And there is only so much filth, drugs, bodily fluids, and horrid odors the average commuter can take that don't have a lot of experience riding subways. I see it in their faces.
The ironic part is that the commuter is paying to ride these rolling garbage cans, while those I've mentioned before are not. Seems that most of the problems could be solved if fare evasion were to be curbed.
I personally think that the city is ok with this happening. They like the idea of getting the destitute, the lowlifes, the junkies, and the thugs off the street and into a self contained moving playpen, where they don't interfere with the tourists and the new temporary narcissist urban dwellers.
